Hi, my name is Jiri and I am from the Czech Republic. Although I studied economy and entrepreneurship, I've ended up as an EFL teacher and it's been a great experience. I came to Brazil directly from the US in 2002 and started teaching. Let me tell you a little bit about what I've done so far.
I have taught English in Brazil for 18 years and in Prague, the Czech Republic, for 3 years. When I first came to Brazil, I couldn't speak any Portuguese at all. Therefore I started teaching using a special conversation method where everything was in English from day one! I taught adults and children. I also had business English (Market Leader methodology) students in a multinational company called ADM and I prepared students for TOEFL and TOEIC.
As I mentioned above, I spent three years in the Czech Republic, where at first I taught in several companies. After a year and a half of commuting all over Prague, I got a job as an in-house lecturer in a company which designed Airbus airplanes. During my three-year stint in the Czech Republic I taught using New English File and Headway methodologies. I prepared some students for CAE, taught customized classes (conversation, grammar, etc) and performed employee testing and evaluation of approximately 200 workers.
After my return to Brazil, I've been teaching using Know How, Touchstone, English in Mind, FCE Result, New English File, Market Leader and more recently the American English File methodologies as well as TOEFL and IELTS prep courses. I've also had experience with giving Czech lessons.
